Enough of US meddling. The US is exploiting Venezuela’s economic recession to intensify its scheme of pushing for “regime change” in the first Bolivarian nation.
The Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KILUSAN), a nationwide, multi-sectoral anti-imperialist and democratic organization in the Philippines supports the Bolivarian government and people as they resist a renewed campaign by the United States to sow confusion among the people, lay blame on the Bolivarian government led by Nicolas Maduro and work with the rightist opposition to overthrow a government that resists imperialist dictates.
Recently, the US and 13 other American nations called on Venezuela’s government to immediately hold elections and to release all political prisoners. The call comes just after Luis Almagro, the Secretary General of Organizations of American States (OAS), called for the suspension of Venezuela from said organization. The OAS, which was founded in 1948 and includes the US among its 35 member countries, has been used by the US as vehicle for its interventions in Latin America.
Prior to this, the US Senate passed a resolution on March 1 calling on US President Trump to heighten sanctions on Venezuela for alleged “human rights abuses” and calls on the OAS to suspend Venezuela. The resolution urges Trump to expand sanctions and penalties against Venezuela for violations of US’s law and human rights abuses.
While making these recent moves appear like simple calls for restoration of democratic governance, these are essentially demands for Maduro to resign and hand-over the reins of government to the pro-US opposition on pain of more overt efforts at “regime change” from Washington.
These are a part of concerted actions the US and its cohorts among the Venezuelan elite have lined up against the Bolivarian government at the outset. They have tried a military coup, an economic coup a constitutional recall and this mix of war on oil price, economic sabotage, creating a climate of panic and mayhem. President Barack Obama’s declaration in March 2015 and its extension on January 16, 2017 of a national emergency due to the “unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States” posed by Venezuela aim to further weaken the Maduro government.
We salute Maduro’s oath never to allow to be a colony once again! We salute the Bolivarian people resisting neoliberalism and imperialism! We trust you will overcome all difficulty!
We support the Venezuelan people in opposing US-sponsored regime change. ###
