Continue the Fight for Genuine Freedom and Democracy against Tyranny and Militarism –KILUSAN
Braving the rains, members of KILUSAN PARA SA PAMBANSANG DEMOKRASYA (KILUSAN), PAGKAKAISA NG KABABAIHAN PARA SA KALAYAAN ( KAISA KA), Youth for Nationalism and Democracy (YND) were joined by Kilusang Makabansang Ekonomya (KME) in marking Philippine Independence Day with a commitment to continue the fight for genuine emancipation and freedom by showcasing art forms as part of their protest action.
According to KILUSAN Secretary General Atty. Virginia Suarez Pinlac, “even as our fishers in Zambales cry out for redress in the face of Chinese bullying and tepid response from our government, even as we continue to allow US military forces to use our territory in order to consolidate its hold over this part of the globe, we, as a people must continue the commitment of our forebears who have done their part to wrest the country from foreign control and domination,”
The participants wore red to symbolize militancy and the continuing commitment to put forward what would be the best interest of the country – an genuinely independent foreign policy that is responsive the needs of the country and reflects mutual respect rather than unequal relations which we have with both the US and China.
The cultural protest started at the corner of Timog and Samar Ave, and marched to Scout Triangle where the group commenced their program with the theme “Kalayaan, Katarungan at Soberanyang Bayan, Ipaglaban!” the program featured speeches of solidarity from participating organizations, spoken word and dulansangan or street play as well as songs which were a mix of original composition. ###
