In Solidarity Against the Re-imposition of US’s Hegemony

Enough of the lies peddled by Washington! Its threat to oust Maduro through a coup or through a military invasion is not because it wants to bring back democracy in Venezuela or because it wants to ease the suffering of the Venezuelan people. The US wants privileged access to Venezuela’s oil, gold and other resources and it wants to have Latin America as its exclusive backyard.

This is how Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KILUSAN) views the reasons given by President Donald Trump, Security Adviser John Bolton and Defense Secretary Michael Pompeo for US’s support for Guaido’s self-proclamation as interim president and for its attempt at a direct military intervention by trying to usher in the so-called “humanitarian aid.”

The other day, after Venezuela’s Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Néstor Reverol, confirmed that Venezuelan authorities have taken into custody Guaido’s aide for having established networks that conduct activities amounting to terrorism, Bolton mentioned another lie, “the US has ‘no higher duty internationally’ than to protect up to 50,000 Americans living in Venezuela from ‘violence and intimidation.’”

Trump lies through his teeth every time he says that President Maduro is a dictator. Venezuela has held 25 elections from 1999 to 2018, three times the number of elections in the United States during the same period, and former President Jimmy Carter hailed these elections as cleanest in the whole world. And besides, it’s the only socialist-oriented country in the world that embarked on the road to socialism by submitting the concept through a referendum.

That they want to end people’s suffering by ousting the Maduro governement and bring relief by sending humanitarian aids are also bold-faced lies. US’s acts of sabotage, the artificial shortages its cohorts create, denying the Venezuelans of control of their oil, denying the Venezuelan government access to its foreign gold reserves and a host of other sanction have caused the Venezuelan people terrible suffering. If it sincerely wants to ease this suffering, a paltry humanitarian aid, a coup or an invasion is not the solution. Rather, it should end the sanctions and sabotage.

That the protection of 50,000 Americans is its primordial concern is not true. In the first place, US citizens that respect Venezuelan laws are not harmed in Venezuela. Secondly, the US used this “concern” for US citizens in another country to justify its invasion of Grenada in 1983. Back then, the US claimed, it wanted to protect 800 American medical students when in truth, they aimed to oust the leftist government in that country.

The other day, Bolton admitted to Breitbart, the US’s goal is to protect its interests in Venezuela and the entire Latin America. In line with the Monroe Doctrine, it wants the entire American hemisphere only for its imperialist interests.

KILUSAN commits to support the Venezuelan people in their defense of their national sovereignty, patrimony and right to self-determination. It likewise commits to seek truth and counter Washington’s lies on Venezuela.

US, Canada and EU, hands off Venezuela!

Viva la Verdad!

Viva la Revolucion Bolivariana!
